This is the BIONAUT™ 10-second online eye test

An online distance vision test for your eyes in 10 seconds. Yes, really — it works.

Are you unsure whether you can still see clearly in the distance?

  • Is my current pair of glasses still good?
  • I don’t wear glasses yet and I’m not sure whether I need glasses for distance vision?

There is a simple and accurate way to test this yourself.

Do you already wear glasses for distance vision? Then wear them during this test.

Why does this test work?

With this “pinhole test”, you can easily check whether your eyes are likely to need a vision correction.

In a moment, you will look through a small hole. This makes you look through the central axis of your eye. Through the central axis of the eye, the image is naturally at its sharpest. Light rays coming in from the side are largely blocked. These angled light rays are often what cause blur when your eyes need correction.

Eye test step 1

Take a piece of paper and a ballpoint pen.

Eye test step 2

Use the ballpoint pen to make a small hole in the paper. Gently turn the pen around a little so the hole becomes nicely round.

Eye test step 3

Close your left eye, or cover it with your hand.

Look with your right eye through the small hole at an object at least 6 metres away. The object you look at should contain details. For example, look at the brick joints of a house or at a tree with leaves. As long as it is at least 6 metres away and contains detail.

Now look with your right eye, while keeping your left eye closed, and alternate between looking through the small hole and looking without the paper. Feel free to switch a few times: with the paper, without the paper, with the paper, and so on.

  • Do you notice a difference?
  • Do you see more detail when looking through the small hole?
  • Can you see the brick joints of a house more clearly or sharply?
  • Can you see the leaves on a tree more clearly or sharply?

Now switch eyes and repeat the same steps for the other eye.

If the answer is NO, I don’t see a difference, then the strength of your distance glasses is probably still fine. And if you do not wear glasses for distance vision, you probably do not need them. If you have concerns about the health of your eyes, always consult a specialist or visit your doctor.

If you have trouble reading, make sure to take the 10-second online reading test.

If the answer is YES, I do see a difference, then it is definitely advisable to have your eyes checked by an independent specialist.

Visit an independent orthoptist, optometrist or optician to have your eyes measured. In most places, you can get an independent eye test for a fee. This usually costs between €30 and €50 for a standard eye examination.
